3D X-Ray Computed Tomography (3DCT) is a well established method in medicine which recently gained more and more importance and acceptance in the examination and inspection of industrial specimens. 3DCT is a method for imaging specimens in three dimensions in order to detect and measure hidden errors, e.g. shrinkage pores, cracks, contaminations or material voids. So 3DCT offers complete 3D volume information of a specimen and therefore a unique insight into the inner structure. However 3DCT also suffers from severe drawbacks. One of the most critical issues using industrial 3DCT is the problem of artefacts especially in the case of multi-material components. The characteristics and strength of artefacts is mainly determined by the specimen's geometry, the penetration lengths, the position and orientation in the cone beam, the measurement parameters and after all the specimen's material combination. Our goal is to develop smart CT scanning methods using the novel technique of dual energy CT. This technique is based on scanning a specimen twice by applying different setups of the CT device. The different setups generate energy dependent scanning information of a specimen, which are recombined in order to benefit from both scans without integrating artefacts for optimal visualization and measurement results.

Task
You will be integrated in the development and implementation of new smart CT methods using dual energy CT. You will collaborate with domain specialists in designing your methods and learn how to utilize modern image processing and visualization toolkits. In a creative environment you are welcome to provide your ideas in a top of the line research area.

Requirements
Knowledgeable in computer graphics and visualization, excellent C++ programming, experience in toolkits like ITK and VTK is advantageous but not mandatory. We expect your creativity, your engagement and your ideas in order to drive our research!
